Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) Print

The TANGHALANG NICANOR ABELARDO (CCP MAIN THEATER) is named after composer Nicanor Abelardo, considered as the Father of Philippine Kundiman (genre of traditional Filipino love songs which was elevated to the status of Art Songs). Among his works were “Nasaan Ka Irog”, “Magbalik Ka Hirang” and “Himutok”.

The venue sits 1,780 guests and has four (4) levels: Orchestra, Boxes, Balcony I and II. It is equipped to meet the requirements of large theater productions such as dance, music and symphonic concerts. The venue also features a tapestry entitled “Genesis” based on an oil painting with the same title by National Artist for Visual Arts Hernando R. Ocampo. The stage floor is made up of Philippine Mahogany wood characterized for its sturdiness and huge size.
